All done, and I’m pretty happy with the results.
Just to serve as a recap, the inner frame was primed with a mix of Mr Surfacer 1000 and Mr Color black paint. Over that I painted Alclad II Steel.
For the armour I primed with Alclad II Black Base, Alclad Chrome on top and to seal it off I top coated with Alclad Aqua Gloss. This had the effect of dulling the shine of the chrome a bit but that’s exactly what I was hopping for, since it was far too shiny for my taste.
The darker bits of armour in the chest section are also painted with Chrome but with only a very light mist so more of the black undercoat come trough. I really like how this turned out, and it’s not hard, though you do need to paint in very light layers building up the colour slowly in order to achieve the desired tone and keep it consistent within all the parts.
The blue was achieved with Alclad Transparent Blue over the top coated Chrome, and only these few parts required almost half of ย 30ml bottle while all the chrome was done with 1/5th to 1/4th of the bottle.
The pistons in the legs are done with Chrome and Titanium Gold.
The decals are from Samuel Decal and these in the shield look fine, but with finer detail as the small lettering on most of the other ones the resolution is crap and they don’t look very good up close, so I opted to use only a few of them in the blue parts.
As I mentioned in a previous post the eyes are somewhat odd. The clear piece for them has the eyes moulded on the inside, so I put some reflective tape on the section of the head behind the part, painted the inside of the piece blackย aroundย the eyes and airbrushed the outside clear blue. It works far better than I thought it would.
And that’s it ๐ comments and suggestions are welcome.
Thanks for watching.
Like the paint job a lot. Have always been impressed with how people create the chrome/metallic effect on their kits. Hope one day i’ll be able to do as good a job as you have done!
Thank you ๐ . It’s not very hard. It only requires some patience and care in the technique
I agree, that’s about the same thing that I was to say. Excellent paint job. The metallic / glossy effect is just eyegasmic!
Thank you. I’m glad you like the finish.
Damn this is good. o-o
Well, thank you ๐
I’m kinda confused with the process you mentioned for the eyes though.
It seems a tad bit complicated.
It’s quite simple really but hard to illustrate without showing the part itself. The outside of the eyes is a flat semi circular transparent plastic, the eyes are on the inside, so I painted the outside transparent blue while the inside black with the exception of the area of the eyes. behind this part on the inside I put a bit of reflective tape, and that makes the effect you see in the pictures when light is directed to them. When there is no light the visor is black.
hmm. I wanna try this. o-o
Correct me if I’m wrong, but you mean the eyes basically had two layers for this kit?
You can say that yes.
Interesting. ๐ I shall experiment. Thank you. ๐
Adventure time! XD

Not exactly. Look at the pieces : https://theironkeep.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/20120908_delta-plus-mg_0001.jpg?w=549&h=411 . In the main head section, the grey part you can see the bit where the eyes will go, that is where I put the reflective tape. Then you have the clear piece for the eyes. that one I painted clear blue on the outside and black on the inside leaving the area of the eyes clear.
Interesting. So the black was in front of the reflective tape?
I really need to try this out myself, huh? XD
Yes the black in on the back of the piece that goes on top of the reflective tape.
Very interesting. o-o so despite being black on the inside, the reflective tape still reflects light back out. @_@
Yes because as I said I didn’t paint the eyes themselves only the area around them black.

Update: managed to do it months ago. ๐
Forgot to say thank you.
Glad to hear ! ๐
